The Siya crew can confirm that Orlando Pirates coach, Roger de Sa, has resigned from his position at the club, and looks set to take over as the new head coach of Ajax Cape Town.
Siya sources close to the situation confirmed that De Sa would leave Pirates, and that he looks set to join the Urban Warriors.
De Sa met with the chairman of Pirates Dr Irvin Khoza today to discuss the matter before it was finalised when the two came to a mutual agreement.
The former Bucs coach is now set to travel to Cape Town to take over as the new permanent head coach following the resignation of Muhsin Ertugral earlier this month.
The move brings an end to a mixed run for De Sa at the Soweto club, where he took the Buccaneers to three cup finals, including the CAF Champions League, but failing to win any of those as will as inconsistent results in the league turned some of the fans against the coach.
He recently had to deal with missiles being thrown at him following their 1-1 draw away to AmaZulu.
Pirates later confirmed the news of De Sa's exit via Twitter and their official website.
In his resignation letter on the club's official website, De Sa, asked that his gratitude to the Chairman of Orlando Pirates Football Club , Dr Irvin Khoza, for affording him the opportunity of coaching a club of Orlando Pirates’ stature be placed on record.
“I will always be appreciative and I take with me fond memories of my time at the club”, said Roger De Sa. “I wish everybody at the club including the technical team, players and management success in the future”, said De Sa.
Dr Khoza added, “I know Roger would have loved to add the second golden star to the Orlando Pirates logo. He now knows how to get there. All that is left is for him to clinch it. A feat I have no doubt he will achieve in his career as a coach”, said Dr Khoza. “Roger leaves Orlando Pirates with an enhanced CV. I wish him well in his future endeavours”, added Dr Khoza
Eric Tinkler will take over the reigns as caretaker coach.
