Davids: Downs Games Took A Lot Out Of Us

Davids: Downs Games Took A Lot Out Of Us

Maritzburg United head coach Fadlu Davids claims their two 'intensive' games against Mamelodi Sundowns took a lot out of his players.

Maritzburg United’s chances of a top-three finish suffered a blow as they lost 2-0 the Soweto giants at the FNB Stadium.

Davids admitted that AmaKhosi were the better side in all departments on the day.

“I think Kaizer Chiefs played a very good game. I think they were the better team in all departments. They turned up today and wanted it more. They were clearly the team pushing and going all out," Davids told SuperSport after the game.

“And you can’t win a game here. You can understand that the two intensive games against Sundowns took a lot out of them but then you still got to go out controlling and thinking and be in the next action and not take those few actions, you’ll get punished for that.

“So well done to them, they bounced back. They wanted it and deserved it fully,” Davids said in a post-match interview after the game.

The defeat is good to have come now weeks before the final, as it has brought them back to earth according to Davids.

“I think overall it was a poor performance from our side and a fantastic performance from their side. They fully deserved the three points. Anyway, we’ll have to go back. It’s probably good to have been brought back to earth now to prepare properly for the final.

“It’s good that it happened now than get a wake-up call in the final. So we have to prepare now for Golden Arrows, two weeks fresh to structure our thinking to prepare in terms of the Golden Arrows game and the final against Free State Stars,” he said.
