It was thought that Dauda would make the squad after Pirates director Screamer Tshabalala was quoted as saying that the Ghana goalkeeper will either start or be on the bench for this game.
Pirates PRO Mickey Modisane confirmed to the Siya crew that Dauda was not part of the 18-man squad for the Dikwena game.
“No, he is not in the squad. The technical team has chosen Senzo Meyiwa and Brighton Mhlongo for this game,” Modisane told the crew.
Dauda’s future at Pirates has come under scrutiny from the media after Bucs coach Roger de Sa was quoted as saying the Black Stars goalkeeper was the third choice at Pirates behind Senzo Meyiwa and Brighton Mhlongo.
De Sa explained to the crew as to why Dauda is the third choice goalkeeper at Pirates.
“Dauda was not part of the squad for the Champions League and Senzo did well for us in that competition and in the other competitions, so that’s why he is currently our number three. Brighton has been Senzo’s back up throughout these competitions and was pushing Senzo hard for the number one spot, so that’s why he is still our second goalkeeper,” De Sa told the Siya crew.
“Look I have three very good goalkeepers at Pirates and I can call up anyone at any day. I will include Dauda in the squad anytime, but for now we’re going for continuity,” concluded De Sa.
Meanwhile, winger Aubrey Ngoma has also not travelled with the team to Rustenburg because of a shoulder injury.
Pirates will take on Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium at 15h30.
