Chiefs Keeper Pleads For Amakhosi Support
Daniel Akpeyi is due to start between the sticks for Kaizer Chiefs today despite his mistake against Polokwane City, and he’s insisted that they’re better than Chippa United.
Akpeyi joined the club on the final day of the January transfer window after an error from Virgil Vries led to an emergency goalkeeper search opening up, however he came under fire last month after missing Walter Musona’s long-range effort as Chiefs drew 1-1.
Those two dropped points mean that, with nine games to go, the Glamour Boys are 10 points adrift of Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the table, and are without a win in three Absa Premiership games as they battle for form.
Chiefs need to grab three points today to keep their already slim title hopes alive, and the Nigerian international believes that they have the quality to beat the Lions of the North, telling the club’s official website, “Keep supporting us… The Kaizer Chiefs supporters have always been great in Durban and to have them come out vocally behind the team will help us get a result. Moses Mabhida is a beautiful stadium, and it becomes even better when there is a good crowd in attendance.
“Highlands Park are a good side, they are very physical and they will try to come at us. We just have to stand our ground. We, on the other hand, are technically the better side… We will enter the pitch on Saturday with the aim to pick up the three points,”
Meanwhile, he has also insisted that he’s needed time to find his feet at Naturena, adding, “It always takes a bit of time to adapt. However, I am now getting to know the players and have got used to who will do what in certain game situations. We are starting to gel together.”
