Daniel Akpeyi wasn’t able to keep a clean sheet on his debut for Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend, although did have a relatively solid first appearance in the famous gold and black jersey.

Akpeyi, the only Premier Soccer League player to travel to Russia for the 2018 World Cup, put in a sturdy performance as he was thrown into the deep end by Ernst Middendorp, though was rarely tested by Orlando Pirates as the game went on to end at 1-1.
The Nigerian international saved 66.6% of the shots that were on target from the Buccaneers during the game, and completed 17 successful passes over the course of his first 90 minutes in a Chiefs shirt.
Thembinkosi Lorch’s late equaliser was the only time that Akpeyi was beaten on the day, though only three of Pirates’ eight shots were on target as both goalkeepers enjoyed a relatively quiet afternoon.
That being said, the 32-year-old seemed to marshal the Chiefs defence well in the absence of Itumeleng Khune, with Virgil Vries not even making the bench following his mistake in the 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City last month.
Here are Akpeyi’s stats from the clash -
Successful passes: 17
Balls won: 5
Balls lost: 7
Shots Faced: 8
Shots on Target Faced: 3
