Former Orlando Pirates and Platinum Stars coach, Owen da Gama, has tipped Bucs as favourites to win Saturday’s MTN8 final.
Pirates will play Stars in the MTN8 final at the majestic Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday at 20h15.
Da Gama, who coached Stars between 2000 and 2007 before moving to Pirates to coach for a season, believes that the Buccaneers’ cup pedigree and good record against Dikwena makes them the favourites to win this encounter.
“Pirates have won this cup several times and they have reached a number of finals during the last few years. Stars last played in the final in 2006 when we won the Telkom Knockout. History indictates that Pirates are indeed the favourites to win the MTN8,” Da Gama told the Siya crew.
“Having said that, you have a fresh and free scoring team in Stars, so if you ask me who would I pick to win the MTN8 final, my head would say Pirates, but my heart would say Stars,” added Da Gama.
Da Gama had some advice for Dikwena coach, Allan Freese, for this tough encounter.
“If I had to advise Allan, I would say that he must keep it tight and not allow Pirates to dictate terms on the field.
"He must keep it tight at the back and the opportunities will come for them to score and I have no doubt in my mind that once those opportunities come, Stars will convert them. But the most important thing for them is not to concede,” concluded Da Gama.
