Cape Town City will face off with SuperSport United this weekend, with the Tshwane giants under pressure to secure maximum points before falling into danger.
SuperSport have had their fair share of struggles in the 2017/18 Absa Premiership campaign, and it could continue this weekend when they travel to the Mother City.
With just four fixtures left to be played in the Absa Premiership, SuperSport are currently in 14th place on the league standings, one point away from Ajax in 15th place and seven points away from the relegation spot.
However, based on the results this weekend, the Tshwane giants could find themselves heading for danger, should they be unable to clinch all three points from their encounter with Head Coach Benni McCarthy’s side.
With Ajax also in action this weekend, should the Urban Warriors secure their first win on the road, they could potentially move out of the danger-zone, although, SuperSport’s result will be the final decider.
Matsatsantsa are yet to secure a league win over City this season, although, with City eager to cement their place in the top eight of the league standings, the Citizens may make it hard for SuperSport to continue to climb for survival.
Should City clinch all three points, they could potentially edge Free State Stars to fifth position, although with three more fixtures to be played thereafter, a third place finish in the league could still be on the cards for the Mother City-based side if they clinch maximum points in all their encounters and team’s above them drop points.
With just seven points separating the two sides, SuperSport on the other hand still has the potential to end up in the top eight of the league standings, this given that teams above them drop points.
It seems that the league title race and the relegation decider could take place on the final day of the 2017/18 campaign and it remains to be seen whether SuperSport will avoid both the play-offs and elimination from South Africa’s top flight.
