SAFA Presidential Elections In The Midst Of Bafana Bafana Preparations

News reaching the Siya crew is that there are factions within the South African Football Association who are concerned about the mounting turbulence caused by the upcoming presidential elections and that these disturbances could compromise the 2019 African Cup of Nations preparations for the men’s senior national team, Bafana Bafana.

Siya sources close to the FA have revealed that the recent headlines relating to the factors of the election race have been the main focus within the football governing body at the expense of giving attention to Bafana.

Recently it has been reported that the verdict of former SAFA Vice-President, Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana’s alleged unfair dismissal case will be heard this coming Friday. Chief Nonkonyana continues to vie for the presidential seat in light of SAFA’s assertion that his campaign is not valid due to the fact that SAFA’s statute dictates that only members who are internal to the FA can compete for the presidency.

“All this has taken centre stage over our national teams. Bafana have not qualified for the World Cup that will be happening in a few months from now and therefore, our efforts must be directed towards ensuring the squad does well in next year’s AFCON,” said the Siya source.

“It’s sad when people have put their own agenda ahead of the national interests and that’s what is happening. If you look at the performance of our national teams we have missed out on two World Cup events,” added the source.

On Monday certain media publications reported on the formation of the National Football Consultative Forum (NFCF). Media reports further indicated that the NFCF which challenges the current statutes of SAFA has the full backing of former Bafana Coach Shakes Mashaba.

Meanwhile, the crew previously reported that SAFA’s Technical Committee had met with current Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter as he looks set to prepare the squad for the AFCON qualifiers which resume in September.
