Thembinkosi Fanteni’s search for a club continues as he seeks to put his disappointing 2012/13 campaign behind him.
The striker nicknamed ‘Terror’ for his ability in front of goal and the fear he induces in opposition defenders, did not have the best of times at Wits last season, after signing from Ajax Cape Town at the beginning of the campaign.
He only made four league starts under Antonio Lopez Habas and did not feature at all under Gavin Hunt, who allowed him to go on trial at AmaZulu and Bloemfontein Celtic, where things did not go his way. Fanteni was subsequently given his clearance and has been back in Cape Town in a bid to revive his career.
He was linked with a trial at Ajax Cape Town, but so far he has not turned up at the Urban Warriors’ training ground. When the Siya crew caught up with him, he said, “I’m still here in Cape Town, training on my own. I haven’t found a team yet, but I’m hopeful that something will come up soon. My focus now is on making sure that my fitness levels are high.”
