Bidvest Wits have provided clarity on the financial impact of the pandemic at the Braamfontein-based club after the likes of AmaZulu, Cape Town City, Cape Umoya United, Highlands Park and TS Galaxy declared that they could be forced to cut salaries should the pandemic continue.

Speaking to the club’s new website Wits Chief Operations Officer Jono Schloss revealed that although the club is feeling the financial impact, there have been no direct implications on salaries thus far.

“Firstly want to thank Bidvest, our owners and in particular our Chairman Mr Alan Fainman, for his insight, leadership and understanding during this time.

“In saying that, a lockdown like this does impact a club financially. Because there are no games, therefore there is no additional revenue generated from gate takings, prize money, merchandise sales, hospitality sales (your bars and or tuck-shops).

“Luckily, thus far there have been no implications so far with regard to our club sponsors as well as the League sponsors because the aim is to complete the season and in doing, so the sponsors' rights will be met by the League and its members,” Schloss said.
