Cape Town City Tie Down Striker

Cape Town City have had at least two departures confirmed recently, but the Siya crew understands they’ve at least been able to retain one of their key players.

Peter Leeuwenburgh, the Citizens’ first choice between the goalposts, is heading back to Holland at the end of the season to join FC Groningen, while the club’s goalkeeper coach Sjoerd Woudenberg also announced last week that he was leaving.

The good news coming out of the Mother City outfit, however, is that striker Tashreeq Morris is staying put – for another season at least.

According to Siya sources, the club has triggered the one-year option on his initial deal and will look to open talks over a new contract later this year, possibly.

Morris has been an integral part of coach Jan Olde Riekerink’s side up to now, though the Dutchman finds himself on “administrative leave” owing to a string of poor results and could also be facing the chop.

Last season Morris only managed 11 appearances and the majority were from the bench as he made his way back from a long term injury.

The current campaign has been a different story.

He has featured in 21 of City’s 36 DStv Premiership games so far and contributed with four league goals, a strong motivation why his option was probably exercised.
