There has been a lot of speculation regarding Chippa United’s next coach, and the Siya crew can reveal that the club has turned their attention to Black Leopards coach, Kosta Papic.
The crew revealed in last week’s edition of Soccer Laduma (issue 873) that the deal between the Premier Soccer League returnees and Steve Komphela has apparently hit a snag, and that there is a possibility he could stay on at Maritzburg United.
Sources have now revealed that Chippa United have their eye on Papic, and will be sending out representatives to meet with the Serbian mentor over the next couple of days. A source close to the imminent deal have revealed that the two parties are close to agreeing on terms, and do not be surprised to see Papic in the Chilli Boys hot seat come the start of next season.
Papic has previously coached Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa, and is popular with the local crowd for his attacking football philosophy. He narrowly missed out on promotion in his first season with Lidoda Duvha, after falling to a 2-1 loss to Polokwane City in the playoffs this past weekend.
The crew is aware that Papic would love to return to the big time and coach a club in the PSL, while Chippa will pull out all the stops to bring him to the Philippi-based side.
