Chippa United have confirmed the signing of a new player who is joining the club for the new season.
Tebogo Makobela, who has been playing for Jomo Cosmos, has been signed by the Port Elizabeth club on a two-year deal.
The 26-year-old, who can play either as a right-back or on right wing, joins the likes of Thabo Nthethe and the Botswana duo of Thatoyaone Kgamanyane and Kabelo Seakanyeng, among the new signings at the Eastern Cape outfit.
“I still can’t believe the next step I have taken in my career, joining Chippa United. I am very happy, thanks to the Chairman, Mr Chippa Mpengesi and everyone for making this move possible. I am delighted to be a Chilli Boy,” the player told Chippa’s official website.
The Chilli Boys are expected to regroup on June 16 for the start of their pre-season in preparation of the new season.
“I am going to meet my father now to share the news with him. The Club has already informed me that we are expected to meet on Saturday, June 16th,” added Makobela.
The player has paid tribute to his former boss and coach at Cosmos in the legendary Ephraim ‘Jomo’ Sono.
“There was a time when he did not entertain any offers for Clubs that were looking for my services. I want to thank him and everyone at Jomo Cosmos for the contribution they have made to my development. I received an encouraging message from Mr Sono himself wishing me all the best at Chippa United,” concluded the player.
