Chippa United have confirmed two new additions to Dan Malesela's squad for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.
As reported by the Siya crew, former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Thamsamqa Sangweni has signed for the Chilli Boys to mark his return to the Eastern Cape after a stint in Eswatini with Mbabane Highlanders.
After leaving Chippa in January 2019, the 31-year-old had spells with Richards Bay FC in the second tier, as well as Maritzburg United before landing a deal in Eswatini last year.
Meanwhile, Chippa have also confirmed the return of Athini Jobodwana from a loan stint with Cape Town All Stars in the GladAfrica Championship.
“We are proud to announce Athini Jodwana and Thami Sangweni as additions to the Chilli Boys squad for this season. Jodwana, left-back/left-winger, returns to the team after a loan spell. Midfielder Sangweni has signed for the club until the end of the season,” Chippa confirmed on the club’s official Twitter account.
Last month, Chippa bolstered their squad with the addition of former Sundowns winger Anthony Laffor and ex-SA U20 international defender Ayabulela Konqobe.
In other news, former Maritzburg and University of Pretoria midfielder Morgan van Rooyen has signed for Steenberg United in the second tier league.
“I can confirm the signing of Morgan van Rooyen with Steenberg United. He joins the team with the sole intention to fight for the promotion of Steenberg United to gain promotion to PSL (DStv Premiership). Morgan has been signed until the end of the season,” the player’s representative Sascha Hendrickse confirmed.
