Chippa United is closing in on Patrick Tignyemb as the club is expected to strengthen the goalkeeping department for coach Clinton Larsen’s team.
Following the departure of Daniel Akpeyi to Kaizer Chiefs midway through the 2018/19 season, Chippa looked to Mbongeni Mzimela as their new number one for the past season.
However, the former Platinum Stars shot-stopper had been seen as a short-term solution, with the Eastern Cape club believed to have been in search of a long-term replacement for Akpeyi in the last few weeks.
News reaching the Siya crew is that a move for Tignyemb to the Chilli Boys is as good as done, according to sources close to the Port Elizabeth outfit, with the parties said to be ironing out a few minor issues before confirming the deal.
As reported by the Siya crew, Tignyemb had his 11-year stay with Celtic come to an end just before the end of the season, after the Mangaung club terminated his contract with one game remaining for the team.
The Free State club made attempts to get the Cameroonian back on board, however, the 33-year-old had his mind made up about leaving.
Tignyemb is set to reunite at Chippa with Larsen, whom he worked with at Celtic in the past.
