Chippa United are expected to send a delegation to Port Elizabeth to meet up with the club’s long-term target Moussa Maazou.
Maazou is part of the Niger national outfit taking part in the 2013 African Cup of Nations and the Chiili Boys are using the opportunity to negotiate with the international while in the country.
Chippa’s general manager, Wanda Mbenguzana, told the Siya crew that plans to lure the former CSKA Moscow player to Cape Town are in progress.
“Maazou’s issue is still on. We are going to pursue it. We have paid everything to his club although we paid through the agent. We are going to follow it since the African Cup of Nations is here. We need to finalise it and if it doesn’t happen we’ll make another move.
“Either the chairman (Siviwe Mpengesi), me or the two of us will go to PE to finalise it,” said Mbenguzana.
Chippa initiated their interest in Maazou before the start of the current season, with countrymen Kassaly Daouda and Seidou Idrissa having already joined the team.
The 24-year-old has been playing for Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel this season, however Chippa reserved one foreign spot in their team for the entire first round of the campaign, hoping for the highly-rated Maazou’s arrival.
