Mamelodi Sundowns will have to make a decision on the future of Thamsanqa Sangweni, as the player is on the wish-list of Chippa United for next season and beyond.
Sangweni is currently on loan at Chippa. The KZN-born player has been enjoying his football at the Port Elizabeth-based outfit.
Sangweni’s performances in the heart of Chippa’s midfield caught the attention of Bafana Bafana coach, Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba, which led to the player travelling with the national team for their Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea earlier this year.
“Chippa United are interested in keeping Thami Sangweni at the club on a permanent deal. The player is back to his best and enjoying his football again, thanks to Chippa United.
"He is one of the players that were with Bafana Bafana at the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, which is proof that he has been performing well. The club has started the negotiations with Sundowns about that,” a source revealed to the Siya crew.
Chippa’s CEO, Peter Koutroulis, confirmed his side’s interest in keeping the hardworking player. Sangweni struggled for game time, during his time at Sundowns, which led to his loan move to Ajax Cape Town prior to him joining Chippa last year.
