Chiefs Will Lick Their Wounds

Kaizer Chiefs are optimistic about bouncing back from their 2-1 aggregate defeat to Orlando Pirates in the recently completed MTN8 semi-final.

The clash was a hotly-contested affair with both sides unwilling to take a step backwards when it came to physical confrontations. Overall, it was perhaps one of the most passionate and hard-fought Soweto derbies seen in recent memory.

Despite the club's start to the new campaign not being totally convincing, Chiefs' fullback, Tsepo Masilela, maintained in edition 840 of Soccer-Laduma that it is still early days in the campaign and too soon to jump to any conclusions.

He said, "To be honest with you, it's still very early days...It's going to be a great season for the fans."

Amakhosi coach, Stuart Baxter, later reiterated Chiefs’ commitment to react strongly to their next challenge.

He told the club’s official website, "We approached the game in a positive way. We were talking about winning and started the game on the front foot. But for some reason, in the second half, we sat back and started playing longer and deep. We will lick our wounds and move on to the challenges that lie ahead.”

The Glamour Boys' next challenge comes in the form of a Telkom Knockout clash with Polokwane City on October 5, in a game in which Chiefs will no doubt be considered strong favourites.
