Kaizer Chiefs are still sweating on the fitness of three important first team players ahead of their top-of-the-table clash with SuperSport United tomorrow night.
Striker, Kingston Nkhatha is said to be battling with a niggling injury, while left back Tsepo Masilela is also doubtful with an apparent muscle strain he picked up in Chiefs' recent 2-0 win over Moroka Swallows. Bernard Parker could be available after apparently being rested as a precautionary measure in the club's last game.
With new signing Katlego Mphela still getting up to match speed and only likely to feature for a handful of minutes if he does feature against Matsatsantsa, it leaves just Knowledge Musona upfront if Nkhatha and Parker aren't able to shake off their knocks. Chiefs' want-away striker, Lehlohonolo Majoro, is no longer available as he has been deemed surplus to requirements after signing a pre-contract with Orlando Pirates.
Nonetheless, there is still time for both Parker and Nkhatha to return if they can have a speedy recovery in the next day or so. However, it appears Parker will return if the club deem he has had sufficient rest to get over his fatigue-related condition.
In addition, if Masilela is unavailable as well, it could prove a challenge for Chiefs. With Keegan Ritchie having departed for Slavia Prague, it leaves just the inexperienced Simphiwe Mtsweni and the returning Jimmy Jambo in the left back slot.
Chiefs coach, Stuart Baxter, confirmed to the club's official website that the players' conditions were being monitored ahead of the clash with SuperSport. He said, "There will also be added motivation of both teams needing the three points. We are monitoring several players like Parker, Masilela and Nkhatha who suffer from a niggling assortment of injuries."
