Ugandan central defender, Ivan Bukenya, is yet to arrive in South Africa to begin his trial with PSL champions, Kaizer Chiefs.
The Siya crew reported earlier this month that the 21-year-old was due to trial with the Amakhosi as they continue their search for a new central defender, however head coach Stuart Baxter and his technical team have still not had a chance to assess him.
Story: Bukenya For Chiefs Trial
It was believed that Bukenya would play for his current club, SC Erbil, in the Iraqi Premier League last Wednesday before jetting into Mzansi for his trial, however, for as yet unknown reasons, he has not arrived.
Chiefs’ football manager, Bobby Motaung, had previously revealed that he was eager to land a striker and a centre back before the start of the new season, and with forward Knowledge Musona already on board at Naturena, his only target seems to be a defender.
As reported in last week’s issue of Soccer-Laduma, it appears that Bukenya’s trial with the Glamour Boys is still due to go ahead, although it now remains to be seen whether he will make it to Naturena before the first game of Chiefs’ campaign, against Mpumalanga Black Aces, taking place on August 2.
