During his prime as a defender for Pirates, Chabalala made his name as one of the top markers in the PSL, who is remembered for stopping Collins Mbesuma from scoring against Pirates, when the Zambian striker was unstoppable and breaking records with the goals he scored for Chiefs at the time.

Former Pirates stars like Jimmy Tau, Joseph Makhanya, Benedict Vilakazi, Lebohang Mokoena and Phumudzo Manenzhe are some of the players Chabalala played with during his time with the Soweto giants.
