Kaizer Chiefs have promoted talented young defender, Lorenzo Gordinho, registering him with the first team after he impressed during camp in the Africa Cup of Nations break.
The 18-year-old, who came through Chiefs’ youth setup, is unlikely to turn out for the Amakhosi first team this season, although coach Stuart Baxter and his technical team do believe that he’s one for the future.
Gordinho is likely to play most of his football in Chiefs’ reserves for the rest of the 2012/13 campaign as they look to close the gap on Orlando Pirates in the Gauteng Monday League, although he could be called upon by Baxter if the club suffer a defensive crisis due to injury or suspension.
The centre back was one of only two players that were registered by the PSL log leaders in this transfer window, with the other being youngster Reyaad Pieterse, a goalkeeper that used to play for Irish club Shamrock Rovers.
Gordinho has already turned out for South Africa at several youth levels and was part of Solly Luvhengo’s under-20 side that came close to qualifying for the African Youth Championship last year.
