After winning seven games-in-a-row in the league, Kaizer Chiefs have extended their lead at the top of the PSL standings to eight points. The club's most recent victory came with a hard fought 1-0 win over second-placed, Mamelodi Sundowns.
Chiefs coach, Stuart Baxter, has emphasised just how important that result was for the club to maintain momentum, as they look ahead to a busy schedule of matches in February. He told the club's official website, "Hopefully the result (against Sundowns) will get us back to the momentum that we've spoken about before..."
The match against Downs was also highlighted by a Man of the Match performance by George Lebese which can only come as a plus before Chiefs' next game against Moroka Swallows on Friday (January 31). The 24-year-old told Chiefs' website that he'll look to build on his good form going forward.
Lebese said, "The award will serve as a confidence booster. I just need to worker harder and I know I will achieve more."
This Friday's highly anticipated clash with Swallows gets underway from 20h00 at VW Dobsonville Stadium. A win for Chiefs could see them move over 10 points clear if the likes of Sundowns, Wits and SuperSport United were to drop points IN their upcoming fixtures.
