Up-and-coming young Kaizer Chiefs central defender, Lorenzo Gordinho, believes the club can go on to enjoy a hugely successful season in the year of Chiefs' 44th birthday anniversary. The talented 19-year-old was promoted to the first team in early 2013 after impressing coach Stuart Baxter during a training camp in that period.
The Chiefs youth product is yet to establish himself as a starter in the first team, however it's believed the player has the potential to go on to enjoy a successful career at the highest level. The Benoni-born defender is contracted to the Glamour Boys until 2016 and has time on his side to learn his trade from the likes of Morgan Gould, Tefu Mashamaite and Eric Mathoho.
Gordinho, who has played international football for South Africa at U20 level, expressed his hope that the current campaign could be a triumphant one for the club as a whole in every competition in which Chiefs are involved in.
He told the club's official website, "My wish for the club in this anniversary is to retain the championship and Nedbank Cup, and also do well in the CAF Champions League."
It appears Chiefs are on target to reach the goals that Gordinho has outlined. The club currently enjoy a five point lead at the top of the PSL standings and could extend that advantage when they take on Mamelodi Sundowns on January 23.
The club also have the opportunity to get their Caf Champions League campaign off to a solid start when they face little-known Namibian outfit, Black Africa, in early February. The match will form part of the preliminary rounds of the tournament before the business end of the competition gets underway.
The Glamour Boys will also have the chance to defend their Nedbank Cup title when the tournament gets underway later this year. Chiefs took the R6 million trophy when they beat SuperSport United in May last year.
