Kaizer Chiefs have been declared as the winners of the PSL’s Q2, claiming the R1.5m prize after their win over Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Siya crew explained last week that Chiefs would secure the quarter if they beat Sundowns, something that they eventually went on to do thanks to an own goal from Wayne Arendse.
The PSL’s CEO, Brand de Villiers, told the league’s official website, “We would like to congratulate Kaizer Chiefs for winning Quarter Two. We have seen them display some good performances lately and this is a timely reward for their efforts.”
De Villier also explained the current Q1 situation, saying, “For every Quarter, fixtures are allocated at the beginning of the season as block fixtures and whenever there are changes, these fixtures remain in that block.
“People will remember that we had to reschedule a lot of fixtures earlier in the season mainly involving Orlando Pirates. This created a backlog and resulted in Quarter One fixtures being postponed to a later date. The fact that competition is tight at the top of the Q1 log also means that it could go to the last matches to be certain of a winner.”
Q1 could be settled in the next few weeks depending on how results go, while Q3 will get underway in February.
