Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the new dates for the upcoming R1 million George 7s rugby tournament in which the rugby arm of the club are taking part. The Glamour Boys' 7s rugby side had originally been scheduled to take part in the event during December, however the tournament was postponed after the sad passing of Nelson Mandela during that period.
The new dates announced will see the tournament be played out on the weekend of January 11-12. 12 teams are expected to take part including the likes of the Blue Bulls, Western Province and the Sharks.
Chiefs' 7s team will be coached by former Springbok international, Gcobani Bobi, and the side is expected to boast some top local rugby talent as well. Four former Springbok 7s internationals are reportedly pencilled in to play a part for the Amakhosi.
In December last year Chiefs' Marketing Director, Jessica Motaung, explained the club were optimistic of bringing home the title. She told the club's official website, "We would like to reward our new fan base with another go at this title and I am very excited about the quality of our squad that Gcobani and his technical team have put together."
In addition, it would appear Chiefs' 7s most high profile game in the opening round of the tournament will be against Western Province from just after 15h00 this Saturday (January 11).
The Siya crew will report back on the outcome of the event.
