Chiefs Complete Double

Nedbank Cup Final

Result: Chiefs 1-0 SuperSport (AET)

Date: 25 May 2013

Venue: Moses Mabhida Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs completed a league and cup double this season after beating SuperSport United 1-0 in the Nedbank Cup final after extra-time on Saturday.

Bernard Parker threatened to get in behind in the 10th minute but was blocked off by Bevan Fransman, who received a yellow card for his troubles.

Lehlohonolo Majoro was almost slipped in by Siphiwe Tshabalala minutes later but the offside flag brought the move to a halt while Itumeleng Khune dealt with a free-kick which was flicked on at the other end.

Edwin Gyimah nodded over the crossbar in the 32nd minute as SuperSport tried to make the most of the set-pieces, but the excellent Erick Mathoho also ensured that chances were few and far between.

George Maluleka fired wide while he would fail to convert their best chance in the 39th minute when Kermit Erasmus slipped him in but his shot was deflected off target by a last ditch challenge.

Neither side got a clear view of goal in the last few minutes of the first-half and the game went into the break stuck at 0-0.

The second-half saw Chief start dominating the game but SuperSport's defence remained firm as the chances were slim.

Bernard Parker drew a good save from Ronwen Williams in in the 65th minute and Amakhosi would go on to finish the game strongly.

Lively substitute Siyabonga Nkosi picked out Majoro who was robbed of the ball brilliantly by the excellent Edwin Gyimah in the 88th minute.

SuperSport then cleared a corner from Parker off the line and the ball back in was nodded just wide of the post. Tshabalala then threw himself to a cross at the far post but extra-time was needed.

Chiefs continued from where they left off in extra-time and just four minutes in Parker scooped a shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area to give them the lead.

Amakhosi were slapping the ball around the park but wasted a number of chances to wrap up the result with some poor decision making, along with some more crucial blocks from Gyimah.

SuperSport were dealt a further blow when Zuma had to come off with a pulled hamstring, leaving them with 10 men as they had already used all their substitutions.

Chiefs had to clear a corner off the line after a goalmouth scramble in the 114th minute and then endured four nervy minutes of injury time, despite only two minutes having been allocated, but in the end they would claim their first Nedbank Cup.

Chiefs: Itumeleng Khune, Siboniso Gaxa, Erick Mathoho, Tefu Mashamaite, Tsepo Masilela, Willard Katsande, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Lehlohonolo Majoro, George Lebese, Bernard Parker.

SuperSport: Ronwen Williams, Thabo Moloi, Innocent Mdledle, Edwin Gyimah, Bevan Fransman, Mogogi Gabonamong, Mark Haskins, George Maluleka, Sibusiso Zuma, Franklin Cale, Kermit Erasmus.
