Chiefs have now gone 12 games without a win against Orlando Pirates following their 1-1 draw at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Mashiane was handed his first start in the derby but was hauled off for Philani Zulu at the interval, but Middendorp is not trying to burn out the youngster.

“We changed with 1-0 leading, bringing on [Willard] Katsande but the structure was the same.

"It was just a change of the young guy [Happy Mashiane] and Philani Zulu in. It is just not to burn somebody in this age, in his first experience he got a little bit unconcentrated [not concetrated] I could see. That was all.

Middendorp, who is yet to suffer defeat in the Soweto Derby, expressed his displeasure with the referee in the second half.

“What I’m thinking, the goalkeeper is sitting down and the defender and then the referee officials allow two/three tactical sessions on the other side. That is something I’m personally not happy with it that it is allowed.”
