Chiefs thumped Cape Town City 4-1 over the weekend, but the Italian opted to make a host of changes for Tuesday night's clash.
The decision, however, paid off as goals from Gustavo Paez and Philani Zulu secured a 2-0 win over Ea Lla Koto, and Solinas reveals he needed to refresh his side.
“We played well I’m happy for the result. It’s a pity for Free State Stars because it is my former team,” Solinas told SuperSport after the match.
“But this is football you know I’m happy because my boys played well.
“In this game we needed to refresh the team. Give everyone a chance. Everyone performed well. Great performance, we need to continue working hard and improve.
“Tomorrow we’ll have regeneration training and only the players who did not play [against Free State Stars] will train. We need rest to recover and after that we play AmaZulu. It’s a very important game for us we’re playing at home we need the three points.”
