Today (January 7) marks the 44th Birthday of Kaizer Chiefs as a football club. The Glamour Boys were founded when the club's Executive Chairman, Kaizer Motaung, returned from a spell playing in America for the Atlanta Chiefs in the North America Soccer League.
Upon his return he founded the club and it has since gone on to become a household name both in South Africa and in some quarters of the world abroad as well.
Birthday wishes have been pouring in to celebrate the club's momentous 44th anniversary. A number of Chiefs players expressed their wishes on the club's official website.
Amakhosi right back Siboniso Gaxa said, "I would like to say a happy birthday to Chiefs. I feel privileged to be part of this rich history. Happy birthday."
Experienced utility player Josta Dladla also gave his own tribute, "I wish the team very well and just wish everything will continue to go very well for the club."
Promising young Chiefs keeper, Reyaad Pieterse, also got into the act. He said, "I just want to wish the Amakhosi all of the best as we are growing as a club. May we always achieve and become more successful."
Chiefs have six more years to wait before they can celebrate a half century of existence but a massive celebration is expected to be in the offing when the club turns 50 in 2020.
