Bloemfontein Celtic are set to announce the signing of young goalkeeper, Sebastian Bailey, ahead of the new season. Bailey is a product of Farouk Abrahams' Goalkeeper and Life Skills Academy.
The 18-year-old is expected to play an important role in Clinton Larsen’s side in the near future. He was signed after impressing the technical team during a week-long trial.
Abrahams confirmed to Soccer-Laduma that Bailey is on his way to the Mangaung outfit to further his career after spending many years in his academy.
“Sebastian Bailey is the name of the goalkeeper. I saw the contract but I don’t know if the deal is through yet. But I know that he is going there. He is only in grade 12 at school. He has been with me for nine years. He has been with the academy since he was a little boy. The boy is a prospect for the future. He is just 18 years old. I’ve seen the contract and it’s a good thing that the clubs are investing in local talent rather than waiting for the finished product from somewhere in Africa.
"That is what we do in our academy. We provide so many good young goalkeepers to clubs from all levels. All we’re asking for is that they must be given an opportunity. We have to nurture our local product. Look at Ronwen Williams, and the best thing that anybody did for him and Darren Keet was to give them an opportunity. Even when they looked like they were faltering the coaches stuck with them. That is what the goalkeepers need,” said Abrahams.
