Result: Celtic 3-0 Arrows
Date: 4 December 2013
Venue: Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium
Bloemfontein Celtic picked up a first home win of the season when they crushed Golden Arrows 3-0 at the Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium in their Absa Premiership Clash.
Celtic took an early lead at the Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium when Frank Mhango broke the deadlock with a right-footed finish in just the 3rd minute.
Phunya Sele Sele then doubled their advantage with 22 minutes on the clock when Vuyani Ntanga whipped in a delightful cross, which full-back Thabo Nthethe did well to get his head on and score past Siya Mngoma in the Abafana Bes’thende goal.
The hosts from Bloemfontein who were still searching for a first league win this season then made sure of the three points when they scored their third goal on the half-hour mark.
Ntanga then got on the score-sheet himself after setting up Nthethe for the first goal, combining well with Musa Nyatama before firing home with his left-foot to make it 3-0 to Celtic, a lead which they took into the half-time break.
Arrows tried to claw their way back into the game in the second-half and had a chance when they were awarded a free-kick when Thabo Nthethe fouled Vuyisile Ntombayithethi on the hour mark. Philani Shange whipped in a good cross from the free-kick but Celtic shot-stopper Patrick Tignyemb did well to make a diving save.
The visitors tried in vain as the second period progressed, but they could not break down a well-drilled Celtic backline and the final 30 minutes produced a stop-start end to the matchup.
Ernst Middendorp will be happy with a wonderful first-half performance from his new club and relieved to have picked up a first home win for Phunya Sele Sele.
