Johnson Reveals What’s Next After Surprise Pitso Split…

Cavin Johnson, who recently parted ways with Al Ahly where he served as an assistant coach to Pitso Mosimane has given insight into what the requirements for his next career move entails.

The 63-year-old has been back in Mzansi following his departure from the Red Eagles last month from what he refers to as an amicable split.

Siya sources indicated that the vastly experienced Johnson was closing in on a move to Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership at the time, although a move never materialized. Now, with the coach ready to get back into the dugout whether locally or abroad, he has revealed what his requirements are for his next club.

“I think coming back from Ahly has taught me a lot. Going forward, if it happens to be in South Africa then you want to make sure that you pick the right club with the right mentality from the bottom to the top and that you are able to build something that is sustainable for generations to come, because that is what I feel I need to do now,” Johnson told the Siya crew.

“I need to find a home that wants to change South Africa because I do believe that South Africa has probably got some of the best players in the world, but we have not emulated the Lucas Radebes, Steven Pienaars, Benni McCarthys, Delron Buckleys, Sibusiso Zuma. We have not emulated these players.

“There are too few a player that are going out of South Africa at that level and from my own experiences and from where I have been in the world, I think we have some of the best players in the world, all we need to do is direct them in the right place and they can go and play overseas if they want to,” he said.

Given his experience both locally and on the continent, Johnson will certainly not be short of any suitors, although it remains to be seen which club manages to snap up the veteran coach in the near future.
