City To Go For Revenge Against Sundowns?
Cape Town City Will Be Eager To Collect Their Revenge Against Mamelodi Sundowns
Cape Town City will be welcoming Mamelodi Sundowns back to the Mother City on Sunday and Soccer Laduma takes a look at the statistics from the last time the two sides met.
The last time the two sides locked horns was in an Absa Premiership encounter on February 02, this year, where Sundowns clinched a 1-0 win despite City having the upper hand on the night.
City managed four shots on target, kept 54.1% of the possession and made 441 successful passes, although not enough to get through the Masandawana defence and get past Denis Onyango in goal.
On the other hand, the statistics show that Sundowns were not as threatening as their opponents, getting just three out of five shots on target and making 289 successful passes.
On the night, Teko Modise seemed to be the midfield maestro for Head Coach Benni McCarthy, tallying 102 touches of the ball and making 73 successful passes.
Another player who was key to the Citizens’ defensive setup as well as attacking play going forward, was Edmilson Dove, who made 83 touches and 57 successful passes from the left back position.
However, McCarthy’s side will be aware of the threat that Sundowns will look to impose on Sunday, April 01, when they lock horns in the quarter-finals of the domestic cup competition.
Percy Tau, who is currently Sundowns’ top goalscorer, with 10 goals in all competitions, will look to become Masandawana’s hero on the day, although will look to Robyn Johannes, who in their previous meeting, was involved in making six clearances and won the ball 17 times.
City will in return look to Ayanda Patosi, the player who scored the winning goal against Orlando Pirates, to progress through to the next round of the cup competition.
