Cape Town City Set To Confirm New Venue For Kaizer Chiefs Clash
Cape Town City are expected to confirm a new venue to host Kaizer Chiefs when the Absa Premiership returns next month, September.
The Mother City-based club will welcome Chiefs to their home ground on Wednesday, September 13, in an Absa Premiership clash, however, City’s chairman, John Comitis has revealed that the fixture is set to be moved away from the Cape Town Stadium after unfortunate events took place at the weekend.
Chairman Comitis revealed in a press release earlier today, that up to 800 spectators were denied the ability to purchase tickets at the Cape Town Stadium on Sunday, August 27, when City hosted Bidvest Wits in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-finals.
“I could not get myself to celebrate when the final whistle went. I was angry and disappointed with the attitude of the city and especially the police services under Colonel Engelbrecht, who would not concede to co-operate in any way to assist by allowing more tickets to be sold for the 800 odd fans stranded without tickets,” Comitis said in a press release.
However, to avoid a reoccurring of events, the Chairman stated that their upcoming Absa Premiership clash against Amakhosi on September 13, could be moved to the Newlands Stadium.
“I want to move our upcoming Absa Premiership match against Kaizer Chiefs, to Newlands. This treatment to the Cape Town City fans was unacceptable. I can only apologise to our loyal fans. I was gutted for them,” he added.
