While all eyes were on Mamelodi Sundowns being crowned Absa Premiership champions yesterday, another club in the top flight also managed to end their campaign on a high.
Cape Town City, who were in a race with SuperSport United for the final Absa Premiership Q-Innovation award, have walked away with the R1.5 million cheque.
The Quarter Four winners secured the most points, 15, in the final six matches played in the 2019/20 Absa Premiership campaign.
While the Citizens may have had rather disappointing first three-quarters of the season, they emerged as one of the best sides in the bio-bubble since football’s restart in August, where they completely turned around their form under Jan Olde Riekerink.
City ended the campaign at sixth place, booking their spot in the top eight for the fourth season in a row.
The Mother City-based club will face-off with Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 competition next season.
