Decision Made On Makola's City Future

Cape Town City have confirmed that they have agreed a new deal with one of their influential midfielders.

With season nearing its end, City held a press conference in Cape Town on Monday, where it was confirmed that former Orlando Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola has been handed a new deal.

Makola's contract with the Citizens was due to expire at the end of June and City chairman John Comitis confirmed to the Siya crew in April that they are in talks over a new deal with the attacking midfielder.

City see him as one of the key players, both on and off the pitch, which is why they were keen on making sure that they tie him down to a new contract.

"Mpho has signed a new contract with us, so he will be with us in the new season," Comitis told the media.

Makola, who turned 35 earlier in May, is working with coach Eric Tinkler, a man he knows very well from their time spent previously at Pirates.

The player has made 25 appearances in all competition for the Citizens this season, 23 of which have been in the DStv Premiership. Despite being one of the senior citizens in the team, Makola has shown he is more than capable of delivering on a weekly basis in the topflight.
