Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler is confident that he has a new plan in trying to stop Mamelodi Sundowns in the league, following the Mother City team’s disappointment against the Chloorkop side in the MTN8 over two weeks ago.
The Citizens are set to host the Brazilians in a DStv Premiership clash at DHL Stadium on Saturday and Tinkler says the players have been cautioned to forget about the cup loss at the Moses Mabhida Stadium and focus on the job at hand.
Furthermore, Tinkler wants his players to improve from their loss against AmaZulu in the last league match before the FIFA international break.
“Obviously, we were very disappointed with the performance and the result against AmaZulu. We could possibly say it was at the backend of what was a tough week after losing the MTN8. Possibly, psychologically the players weren’t in the right space, but I don’t think we can use that as an excuse. Our performance against AmaZulu in my opinion was simply not good enough. We have explained to the players about the importance of getting back to where we were before and during that game against Mamelodi Sundowns. The importance of being able to put on such a good performance against Sundowns and not managing to do that against AmaZulu, that’s the disappointment,” said Tinkler, speaking through the club’s media department.
The coach says the aim will be to dictate at home against Downs, who are yet to concede so far this season.
“We want to see a good response from them leading to this, again tough game against Sundowns at home. At home we need to dictate, we need to be positive, and we need to play without fear. We need to get back to winning ways and I think that’s very important. We gave the players a couple of days off and hopefully everybody has put what was in the past in the past and forget about the MTN8 and move on and focus on eight important league matches,” the coach added.
