Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler has revealed the reason defender Edmilson Dove parted ways with the club.
The Mozambican defender requested his clearance before the close of the transfer window on Monday, after joining the Mother City outfit in 2017. He had a successful spell with the Cape club but had recently become a bit-part player in Tinkler's side.
Before parting ways with the Citizens, the 27-year-old defender had made just seven appearances in the DStv Premiership and two in the MTN8. He is a free agent and is able to join a club outside of the transfer window because he received his clearance before it closed.
"Dove wishes to go to a club where he is going to get regular game-time. That has been his wish, something we could not guarantee at Cape Town City," Tinkler told the Siya crew.
"There's a young, talented Terrence Mashego who is now even playing in Bafana Bafana, you know. So for him to get regular game-time, we cannot guarantee him that. He actually made the request to be given his clearance, so that he could go find a club where he would be able to play on a regular basis. It was not entirely a club decision. It was more a Edmilson Dove decision."
