Cape Town City assistant coach, Vasili Manousakis believes that his side is out of the Absa Premiership title race following their defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Brazilians claimed a 1-0 win over the Citizens at the Athlone Stadium on Friday, where they now have a five-point advantage at the top of the league standings.
City are now fifth place on the Absa Premiership league standings, joint on points with Kaizer Chiefs who are fourth on the log.
However, despite the 10 matches to go before the league title is decided, City assistant coach Manousakis believes that his side is out of the running and would be happy to end the season in the top five.
“I think it is done, to be honest, I think it has slipped, that’s us. I think if we stay in the top five, we will be okay, they will be happy with that,” Manousakis told the media.
“We’ve got Nedbank on Wednesday and then we are off to Swaziland and that is a whole new experience for us in the CAF.
“If I understood the chairman at the beginning of the season, his mandate to Benni was top eight so, hopefully, we will end there and thereabout. But, I think we need to be realistic and say that we are out of the running,” he added.
