Can Leopards Upset Pirates?

AC Leopards will be looking to get the better of Orlando Pirates in Saturday’s CAF Champions League Group A match in Dolisie.

Leopards, who held Pirates to a 0-0 draw when the teams last met at Orlando Stadium in July, are currently unbeaten in their last six Ligue 1 matches.

Overall, the Dolisie-based side has lost only two games in the 19 league games played so far this season, winning 14 and drawing the other two matches.

Leopards also have the best defensive record in their league, having conceded only 12 goals in the 19 matches played.

They are currently sat at the top of Congo’s Ligue 1 table, having scored 38 goals in the 19 matches. The Bucs defence, which has been depleted by suspensions, will have to be at their best to deal with Leopards’ attack.

Despite their domestic form, Leopards have so far failed to ignite the Champions League, only winning one of the four matches played so far.

Pirates, on the other side, have been in fine goal-scoring form in the Champions League, scoring eight goals in their last two matches.

They beat Al Ahly 3-0 away in Egypt and then handed Zamalek a 4-1 drubbing in Soweto, before losing 2-1 to Zamalek in the return leg away in Egypt.

When one looks at this Champions League statistics, then Pirates are favourites to win this encounter against Leopards.
