Hulking Kaizer Chiefs central midfielder and defender, Ivan Bukenya, is said to be delighted he has made his official league debut for the club. The still youthful 22-year-old came on as a second half substitute during Chiefs' 2-0 win over Free State Stars, and came very close to sealing his debut with a goal.
However, he was narrowly unable to connect with a header and the chance went begging. Nonetheless, the Ugandan juggernaut produced a solid little cameo which hinted at signs he might get further opportunities to play in future.
The player has since revealed how happy he is to have played for Chiefs in an official match. Bukenya had recieved game time previously for the Glamour Boys although this was in exhibition and friendly matches.
The Kampala-born utility player told the club's official website, "The coach told me that I will be in the squad in the Free State Stars match. I was already focused and ready because I knew the coach could call my name from the bench anytime. I didn’t want to disappoint anyone, the coach, the fans and the management, hence I was focused on the game."
He also outlined how his time at Chiefs was going, "My first days in the camp have been going very well. I have enjoyed every moment. I shared a room with the funny man, Lorenzo Gordinho. During the dying minutes of the Free State Stars game, coach Baxter called me to dress up. I was very happy because I was waiting for that moment...I am now waiting for a turn to start my first game.”
