Masuku On His Progress At Bucs

Khethokwakhe Masuku says he is satisfied with his progress at Orlando Pirates since joining from Black Leopards at the beginning of the season.

The skilful winger saw little game time at the start of the campaign, but his fortunes began to change in the second round of the season. He has played in bit parts under new coach, Vladimir Vermezovic, although it remains unclear whether he will be in his plans next season.

The 28-year-old has provided Bucs supporters with two of the biggest talking points of the season – his showboating in the dying minutes of the 4-0 win over Golden Arrows in the Telkom Knockout, as well as putting his headphones on while sitting on the bench, after being substituted.

Asked about how he feels about his individual campaign so far, he told the Siya crew, Eish, coming from Leopards, I had to adjust to a lot of things here like the new system and all that. Pirates play completely differently to Leopards and the expectations, competition and demands are also different, so I don’t think I’ve done badly at all. I’ve tried to adjust and I’m happy with my progress so far. It can only get better. My first season here was about finding my feet and also getting used to the team. Obviously I’m not where I would like to be, which is commanding a regular place in the team, but I’m happy with my progress.”

“I mean, I’ve already scored two goals so far this season and I might score more in the remaining games. I’ve learned a lot since I joined Bucs and I’m improving. The main thing was to grow as both a person and as a player, which I think I have done, although there’s always room for improvement. The two teams are on opposite ends in terms of their history and achievements, so I believe joining Pirates was a step in the right direction for me,” he concluded.

Masuku is competing for a place in the starting line-up with the likes of Tlou Segolela, Daine Klate and Sifiso Myeni and a lot is expected of him as Bucs push for a top three finish.
