Lekgwathi: The Chairman Was Angry

The media frenzy regarding Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana midfielder, Oupa Manyisa’s expected transfer to current league champions, Mamelodi Sundowns did not sit well with Bucs Chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza, with strong indications suggesting that Khoza’s irate state may have led to the deal being delayed.

In this week’s interview with the Bucs stalwart skipper, Lucky Lekgwathi, the 38-year-old defender shared his views on the possibility of Manyisa joining the Tshwane giants and, the feelings expressed by his Chairman on the matter.

'Phinda Mzala' also expressed that he would continue inspiring his Bucs teammates including new recruits such as defender Tshepo Gumede and goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane, despite his injury-stricken season that has kept him out of the Bucs squad.

“Everyone is asking about that and I tell them I don’t know anything about it. I was listening to the chairman on the radio expressing his anger about the whole situation,” said Lekgwathi on Manyisa’s pending deal with Sundowns.

“I don’t have anything to say about that because I don’t know anything,” he added.

On Mpontshane and Gumede, Lekgwathi said it’s important for the former Platinum Stars duo to adjust playing for a bigger club.

“I’m happy about the signings and I think they are quality players. They are coming from smaller teams and we must help them to adjust, ” highlighted the Bucs skipper.

“It’s important that I’m there for Gumede and Mpontshane because I’m a defender and they’ll be playing next to me,” he further explained.
