Orlando Pirates coach Roger de Sa and his technical team have welcomed Ronald Chitiyo for an assessment with the club.
The talented midfielder had an outstanding season with Monomotapa United in the Zimbabwean Premier League, with his exploits on the field attracting the interest of the PSL defending champions.
The Zimbabwean was the runner-up in the Zimbabwean Soccer Star of the Year award, following his superb season in Monomotapa colours.
A source in the Bucs camp confirmed with the Siya crew that Chitiyo began his trial with the defending league champions on Tuesday.
“There is a player training with the club. He came from outside the country to try his luck with the team. He started training yesterday (Tuesday). His name is Ronald. I haven’t seen much of him just yet because like I say, he started training with the team yesterday,” said the source.
News reaching the Siya crew is that the player has been given a week to try and impress at the Parktown-based outfit.
Rooney, as Chitiyo is known in football circles, hopes to join his countryman Takesure Chinyama at Bucs, however Ajax Cape Town are also believed to be interested in his services.
