According to Siya sources, Keagan Buchanan has finally agreed a deal to return to DStv Premiership action next season.
The midfielder became a free agent in February following the shock decision by Maritzburg United to let him go at a time the club would have needed his experience in their battle to avoid relegation in the top-flight.
Buchanan, 30, was then immediately in talks with Swallows to join them on a short-term deal until the end of the campaign, but the two parties could not agree on personal terms and talks all but collapsed.
The Siya crew previously reported that the player was then on AmaZulu’s radar, and indications are that Buchanan has put pen to paper on a two-year contract at Usuthu with an announcement by the club imminent.
A former Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder, Buchanan is expected to add his experience to coach Benni McCarthy’s team ahead of what is expected to be a tough second season for the coach.
McCarthy was appointed AmaZulu coach in December last year – seven games into the campaign, and managed to guide them to a historic second place finish, guaranteeing their CAF Champions League qualification.
Now that the club will be juggling the domestic and continental schedule in the coming months, McCarthy will need the owners to back him with an even stronger squad to be able to compete on all fronts.
