Chiefs Stopper Recovering, Doubtful This Season
Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo is drawing closer to a return to full training, but is still unlikely to play again this season.
The 27-year-old underwent a successful operation on his ankle back in March after the injury was noticed following Chiefs' Nedbank Cup victory over Stellenbosch, and he was subsequently ruled out for the following eight weeks.
Having had his cast removed earlier this month, Khuzwayo will now be targeting a return to training with his Amakhosi teammates, but will be focusing more on making sure that he is at peak fitness by the time the 2017/18 campaign comes around.
Khuzwayo's injury, coupled with knocks to Brylon Petersen and Luthando Sixhaso, saw young Bruce Bvuma make his debut recently when Itumeleng Khune injured his hip, but Steve Komphela will be happy with the depth in his goalkeeping department.
When the former AmaZulu and Thanda Royal Zulu man was operated on in March, it was suggested that it would take two months for him to recover, and while he does seem to be progressing nicely, it seems almost impossible that he would be able to get back in the squad before Chiefs' last game of the season on 27 May.
