Agent Confident Mhlongo Will Be Playing For Chippa
Brighton Mhlongo’s Agent Says The Goalkeeper Belongs To Chippa United
Brighton Mhlongo’s representatives from Prosport International have reiterated that the goalkeeper will be turning out for Chippa United in the upcoming 2017/18 season, following reports that he will be heading back to Orlando Pirates.
Last week Chippa confirmed that the Orlando Pirates goalkeeper had been signed on a permanent long-term deal and would be turning out for the Chilli Boys this season.
“Executive Chairman, Chippa Mpengesi has confirmed the signing of the goalkeeper, Brighton Mhlongo on a 3 year deal from Orlando Pirates,” the Port Elizabeth club tweeted on Tuesday last week.
In his confirmation of Mhlongo’s capture on the club’s official website, club boss Chippa Mpengesi thanked Pirates and the club’s chairman Dr Irvin Khoza, as well as the player’s representatives.
“We are pleased to confirm that Brighton will don the Chippa United jersey for the next three years. He is one of the top goalkeepers in the country, and his arrival can only strengthen us going to the season ahead. Thank you to Dr Khoza and Orlando Pirates, they once again showed their professionalism during negotiations.
"I would also like to thank Prosport International for their contribution in making this deal happen. Lastly my Management Team down (in) Port Elizabeth, in particular, Mr Peter Koutroulis who worked tirelessly in tying up this deal,” Mpengesi told Chippa’s website at the time.
Local media reports have now linked Mhlongo with a move back to Pirates, in what seems to be a twist in events. Despite the reports, Mhlongo’s agent, Mike Makaab, is confident that the 26-year-old will turn out for the Chilli Boys in the new season. “Brighton will be playing for Chippa this season,” said Makaab.
Attempts have been made by the Siya crew to get a comment from the two clubs, however, both Pirates’ Floyd Mbele and Chippa’s Peter Koutroulis were not immediately available to discuss the player’s transfer.
