As reported in this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma, Mhlongo will make his way back to the Soweto giants, once his stay with Chippa United comes to an end on June 30.
It has been revealed to the crew by sources in the know that the 27-year-old goalkeeper is only on a one-season loan stint with the Chilli Boys.
According to statistics from the 2017/18, here’s how Mhlongo’s performances are compared to Wayne Sandilands and Jackson Mabokgwane’s performances so far:
Brighton Mhlongo (Chippa United): 8 Absa Premiership appearances, 2 Nedbank Cup appearances.
Wayne Sandilands (Orlando Pirates): 10 Absa Premiership appearances, 1 Telkom Knockout appearance.
Jackson Mabokgwane (Orlando Pirates): 12 Absa Premiership appearances, 1 Telkom Knockout appearance.
Brighton Mhlongo: 5
Wayne Sandilands: 5
Jackson Mabokgwane: 5
Brighton Mhlongo: 11
Wayne Sandilands: 10
Jackson Mabokgwane: 12
However, with Pirates still unsure on who their first choice goalkeeper is, while constantly rotating between Wayne Sandilands and Jackson Mabokgwane, and Siyabonga Mpontshane who has only made two appearances for Pirates this season so far, it remains to be seen whether Mhlongo will be given a shot between the sticks, once he returns to the Bucs in the new season.
