Breaking: Decision On Xulu’s Future Confirmed

Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia has confirmed the club will not keep one of their star players beyond tomorrow’s deadline on his contract.

With the 2019/20 season still suspended because of the global Coronavirus pandemic, numerous Premier Soccer League players with deals running out on June 30 will get clarity on their futures this week.

Siyanda Xulu is on that list, and now his club has confirmed they are unable to retain his services on a short-term contract to be able to conclude the campaign, which is expected to resume following the greenlight to do so from government last week.

“We’ve made a decision that we don’t want to keep him in suspense – he has a bright future ahead and he should take this time now to be marketed to clubs that his agent is looking for,” Kadodia told the Siya crew on Monday.

Xulu, who arrived from Kaizer Chiefs three years ago, has been a regular for the Team of Choice, suggesting the decision not to keep him could very well be based on the club’s financial standing as PSL teams begin to feel the Covid-19 pinch.

“There are other contracts finishing, but so far this is the only one we have made a decision on. We are going to keep a few others on a short term contract,” the chairman added.

Xulu’s agent said the player understood Maritzburg’s position and will begin to put out feelers for the 28-year-old’s next club.

“Given the situation, we understand the reason for the club not being able to give him a short term deal. We are now open to possibilities and looking at interests, although things are still not back to normal yet,” said Paul Mitchell of Siyavuma Sports Group.
